Changes to the BICON Unretorted meat case (Chicken meat from New Zealand)
Effective from 5 December 2024The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has added information notices to the BICON commodity case in the import conditions for chicken meat from New Zealand.
Due to the detection of Highly pathogenic avian influenza in New Zealand only cooked chicken meat is permitted import.
- The notices advise that currently the permit conditions for cooked chicken meat must be followed.
- Uncooked chicken meat is not permitted.
The department will work with the NZ MPI to review Australian import conditions in response to the detection and, where possible, to facilitate trade.
This is a live situation that the department is following closely. The department will provide updated information when it becomes available.
