New standard permit for laboratory materials for ionising radiation at 50 kGy
Effective from 1 February 2024The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has created a new standard permit for the import of animal fluids and tissues and laboratory materials that will be treated onshore with ionising radiation to a level that achieves a minimum absorbed dose of 50 kGy, excluding:
- Fluids and tissues sourced from bovines, ovines, caprines, cervines, camelids and/or mink or their derivatives.
- Goods containing fluids and tissues sourced from bovines, ovines, caprines, cervines, camelids and/or mink or their derivatives.
- Goods known (or suspected) to be infected with disease causing prion proteins (whether protease resistant or not).
Importers are encouraged to review the import conditions and apply for a standard permit if conditions can be met. If your goods do not meet all of the permit conditions, please submit an application for a non-standard permit.
