Enhancing the enforceability of permits for heat treated bee pollen capsules/tablets for human use

Effective from 7 March 2024

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is enhancing the enforceability of standard import permit conditions for bee pollen in fully finished and retail packaged capsules and tablets, for human consumption and human therapeutic use.

The current biosecurity measures for bee pollen in fully finished and retail packaged capsules and tablets include that the bee pollen:

  • has been heat treated at a minimum temperature of 60°C (140°F) for a minimum of 30 minutes, and
  • is for human consumption or human therapeutic use only.

The standard import permit conditions for bee pollen in fully finished and retail packaged capsules and tablets, have been updated to enhance the enforceability of these measures in the event of a non-compliance.

No changes have been made to the documentation (Manufacturer's declaration) requirements and standard import permit holders will not need to make any changes to their current importation procedures.

Who does this notice affect:
Importers of bee pollen in fully finished and retail packaged capsules and tablets for human consumption or human therapeutic use, Biosecurity Imports Support Team and Pathway Operations Cargo - Assessment and Inspections.
