Commencement of 2024–2025 Burnt Pine Longicorn flight season
Effective from 31 October 2024The Ministry of Primary Industries New Zealand has notified the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry on the commencement of the 2024–2025 Burnt Pine Longicorn beetle (Arhopalus ferus ) flight season.
The 2024–2025 flight season of the Burnt Pine Longicorn beetle will begin for all New Zealand ports as of midnight 00:01 hours (NZST) on Friday 1 November 2024.
Consignments loaded onto vessels and sealed into containers prior to 00:00 hours (NZST) on Friday 1 November 2024 are not required to meet import conditions for importing during Burnt Pine Longicorn flight season.
The 2024–2025 flight season of the Burnt Pine Longicorn beetle will end at 23:59 hours (NZST) on Wednesday 30 April 2025 for all New Zealand ports.

Background:
The department employs a heightened surveillance regime each year for managing the risks posed by Burnt Pine Longicorn beetles (Arhopalus ferus) on vessels departing from New Zealand during the flight season.
