Deregulation of Plantago asiatica mosaic virus as a quarantine pest

Effective from 30 April 2024

The department has reviewed the regulatory status of Plantago asiatica mosaic virus (PlAMV). As a result, PlAMV is no longer considered a quarantine pest as it is now recognised as being present in Australia. Effective from 26 April 2024, any detections of PlAMV virus on imported plant material will not require biosecurity remedial actions for this pest. The department will also contact permit holders and Approved Arrangement sites who are currently managing detections of PlAMV on imported material.

Background:
The department has determined that Plantago asiatica mosaic virus (PlAMV) no longer meets the definition of a quarantine pest given it is present in Australia and not under official control in any state or territory.

Import permits:
This change does not impact import permit conditions.

Who does this notice affect:
Importers of bulbs or nursery stock which are hosts of PlAMV (and their customs brokers), Approved Arrangements (Class 6.11) and departmental staff.
