Ricinus communis seed for sowing

This case describes the requirements for the importation of Ricinus communis seed. Note: The genus Ricinus is considered to be monotypic, with Ricinus communis being the only species. Previously described species within the genus Ricinus have been transferred to other genera or grouped within R. communis. R. communis may be imported under the following conditions: All seed for sowing is required to have an import permit prior to importation into Australian territory. All seed must be free of contamination when inspected on arrival. The seed must be packaged in clean, new packaging with the botanical name clearly identified. All seed must be grown in an approved post entry quarantine facility in Australian territory, from seedling emergence to seed harvest, where the material will be visually screened for disease. This case describes the requirements for the importation of microorganisms and infectious agents for in vitro use or in vivo use in laboratory organisms. Zantedeschia spp. for use as nursery stock

Effective 1 March 2023 to 5 April 2023

This case describes the requirements for the importation of species of Zantedeschia plants, tissue culture and tubers. All plant material requires an import permit prior to importation into Australian territory. Tissue cultures must have root or callus development, be free of visible contamination, and require phytosanitary certification and inspection prior to release from biosecurity control. Other plant material will require inspection, fumigation and a minimum 3 months growth period in quarantine at an approved arrangement site for visual disease screening. Dormant Zantedeschia tubers from approved countries may be imported under an approved system that requires inspection overseas to verify freedom from pathogens of concern. Tubers must be treated for insects, and following inspection and treatment, may be released from biosecurity control without the need for post entry quarantine. Starter cultures (and derivatives)

This case describes the requirements for the importation of starter cultures (and derivatives) for human food, beverage, human therapeutic and cosmetic use only. Note that import conditions in this case are also applicable to primary derivatives e.g. antigens, proteins, genetic material. For the import of in vitro laboratory work or in vivo work in laboratory animals, please refer to the BICON case Microorganisms. Please note that this case only applies to the starter culture component of composite products.
