Minor changes to import conditions for new caravans containing timber

Effective from 20 February 2024

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has made minor changes to the ‘Prefabricated offices, accommodation units and caravans BICON case’ – specifically to the import conditions for new caravans containing timber.

The changes have been made to better outline the requirements that apply to any timber components present in new imported caravans. These requirements are as follows:

  • Timber components which are not fixed or are not integrated as part of the manufacturing process (e.g. moveable tables and chairs) must also meet the import conditions of the associated timber BICON case, including any treatment/certification requirements.
  • Timber components which are fixed or are integrated as part of the manufacturing process (including fixed furniture and components considered as ‘bodywork/framework’) are only required to meet the relevant import conditions of the Prefabricated offices, accommodation units and caravans BICON case.

Who does this notice effect:
Industry stakeholders including Biosecurity Industry Participants, master consolidators, freight forwarders, importers and customs brokers involved with the importation of new caravans containing timber.
