BICON houses the Australian Government's Biosecurity import conditions database for more than 20,000 plants, animals, minerals and biological products. It will help you to determine what import conditions exist and if an import permit is required. Please refer to the Department of Agriculture Importing to Australia page for more information about BICON.

Locating an import case using a scientific name is a 3 step process. Use the filter to find available names, select from the list and then click search.

You may locate import cases by using at least the first 4 digits of a tariff code. Not entering the full 10 digits may return multiple results.

Did you know that you can view the History in BICON to see previous versions of a case? You now also have direct links to any alerts or changes, made during that effective period.


In Quick Search, enter the name of the case you wish to see.

Select the case.

Under Case details select History

Here you can view all versions of this case, including the current version. You can also access Alerts and Changes associated with this case.


Select the hyperlinkto open the Alert or Change.

You can also access the case as it was on a given date. Select the hyperlink that corresponds with the required date.  You will then be able to navigate the import scenario for that Effective period.
