Systems approach for the management of peach twig borer (Anarsia lineatella), peach fruit borer (Carposina sasakii), plum fruit moth (Grapholita funebrana) and oriental fruit moth (Grapholita molesta)

The General Administration of Quality Supervision- China Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ-CIQ) has primary responsibility for coordinating and supervising the systems approach to manage the above listed pests.

Key components of the systems approach are:

1. Orchard surveillance and control.
   

   • Registered growers must implement orchard control programs approved by the General Administration of Quality Supervision- China Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ-CIQ).
     

   • Monitoring and detection surveys are required.
     

2. Quarantine inspection and remedial action if detected. 600 per variety lot must be visually inspected and 60 fruits must be cut and examined as part of the quarantine inspection. The fruit for cutting may be taken from the cull fruit.
   

The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (the department) will conduct phytosanitary fruit inspection on arrival. If any of the listed pests are detected, the consignment will be rejected. Chinese NPPO is required to arrange for trace back to identify the source orchard and the source orchard must be excluded from export to Australia for that season or the remainder of the season.
