Narcissus flies are known to occur in Andorra; Austria; Bulgaria; Canada; Czech Republic; Denmark; Finland; France; Germany; Guernsey (Channel Island); Ireland, Republic of; Italy; Japan; Jersey (Channel Island); Korea, Democratic Peoples Republic (North Korea); Korea, Republic Of (South Korea); Latvia; Morocco; Netherlands; New Zealand; Norway; Poland; Romania; Russian Federation; Slovakia; Slovenia; Spain; Sweden; Switzerland; Turkey; Ukraine; United Kingdom; United States.

If a Narcissus fly host species has been grown in any of the above mentioned areas, the bulbs will be treated using either methyl bromide fumigation or hot water immersion as follows:

1. Methyl bromide

1.1. Fumigation at 32 g/m3 for 6 hours at 21°C–and above, or

1.2. fumigation at 48 g/m3 for 4 hours at 21°C–and above, or

1.3. fumigation at 64 g/m3 for 3 hours at 21°C–and above, or

1.4. fumigation at 96 g/m3 for 2 hours at 21°C–and above, or

1.5. fumigation at 48 g/m3 for 4.5 hours at 16°C–20°C, or

1.6. fumigation at 80 g/m3 for 3 hours at 16°C–20°C.

For each 5°C (or part of 5°C) the temperature is expected to fall below 21°C, 8 g/m3 must be added to the dosage rate, unless otherwise specified by the Department. It is the minimum temperature during the course of fumigation that is to be used for the calculation of the dose. The Department does not allow dosage compensation where the ambient temperature is above 21°C or below 10°C.

OR

2. Hot water immersion

2.1. Immerse bulbs completely in hot water.

2.2. A bulb core temperature of 44°C must be maintained for at least 60 minutes.

2.3. If bulbs are imported for flower production, they must be planted shortly after treatment to preserve floral characteristics.
