Answer

Listed fish species (high, medium and low risk fish species)

Effective 10 October 2023

Answer Help:

The department classifies all non-Salmonidae fish into different categories, according to their biosecurity risk. These are:

- High risk
- Medium risk
- Low risk

Fish species falling into these different categories must be processed (i.e. de-headed or de-gilled or eviscerated) differently, and to the extent necessary to manage the biosecurity risk.

These import conditions are generally only used for commercial import as certification is required.

Processed fish from these species may also be able to meet the import conditions for consumer ready fish.
