Requirement: Revised conditions for Zea mays seed from Idaho (USA) for field sowing in Australia

Effective 25 November 2021 to 1 July 2022

Zea mays seed from Idaho (United States of America) imported to Australia for the purpose of field sowing, must meet the following revised conditions of entry:

  1. Export crop production and inspection

    1. Fields known to be free from MDMV for two years are registered for export by the Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA).
    2. Disease free Idaho-grown seed used for planting.
    3. Two crop inspections of a minimum of 10% of the export crop. 300 plants randomly selected during second inspection tested for MDMV.

  2. Export seed processing, packinghouse procedures and certification

    1. Harvesting equipment cleaned before crop is harvested and delivered to registered packinghouse.
    2. Packinghouse and seed-cleaning equipment inspected by Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) before seed is processed.
    3. Seed is cleaned to remove extraneous matter and segregated at all times from other seed not destined for Australia.
    4. Pre-export phytosanitary inspection for quarantine pests conducted by APHIS.
    5. Seed treated with fungicide to control Ustilago zeae.
    6. Packing, labelling and storage to preserve hygiene and identity of seed.
    7. Phytosanitary certification of consignment issued by APHIS.

  3. Clearance at the Australian border

    1. Verification of consignment documentation.
    2. On-arrival inspection conducted by the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment.

Original source of import conditions prior to revision: IRA of sweetcorn seed for sowing from Idaho
