Requirement: Revised conditions for Zea mays seed from Idaho (USA) for field sowing in Australia
Effective 25 November 2021 to 1 July 2022Zea mays seed from Idaho (United States of America) imported to Australia for the purpose of field sowing, must meet the following revised conditions of entry:
Export crop production and inspection
- Fields known to be free from MDMV for two years are registered for export by the Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA).
- Disease free Idaho-grown seed used for planting.
Two crop inspections of a minimum of 10% of the export crop. 300 plants randomly selected during second inspection tested for MDMV.
Export seed processing, packinghouse procedures and certification
- Harvesting equipment cleaned before crop is harvested and delivered to registered packinghouse.
- Packinghouse and seed-cleaning equipment inspected by Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) before seed is processed.
- Seed is cleaned to remove extraneous matter and segregated at all times from other seed not destined for Australia.
- Pre-export phytosanitary inspection for quarantine pests conducted by APHIS.
- Seed treated with fungicide to control Ustilago zeae.
- Packing, labelling and storage to preserve hygiene and identity of seed.
Phytosanitary certification of consignment issued by APHIS.
Clearance at the Australian border
- Verification of consignment documentation.
- On-arrival inspection conducted by the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment.
