Health certification requirements for the importation of domestic cats from New Zealand

Effective 14 July 2015 to 5 September 2015

  1. Residency

    1.1. The cat was not under quarantine restriction during the 60 days immediately prior to the scheduled date of export.

    2.1. Either

    2.1.1. since birth or direct import from Australia, the cat was continuously resident in New Zealand, or

    2.1.2. the cat was resident in New Zealand for a minimum period of 90 days immediately before export.

  2. External parasites

    2.1. The cat was treated with a product that kills ticks and fleas on contact within 72 hours prior to export.

  3. Internal parasites

    3.1. The cat was treated with an internal parasite treatment effective against nematodes and cestodes within 72 hours prior to export.

  4. Examination of the cat

    4.1. The cat was examined and found to be free from ticks and clinical signs of infectious or contagious disease within 72 hours prior to export.

    4.2. The cat was not more than three (3) weeks pregnant, nor suckling young, at the time of export.

  5. Identification

    5.1. At each veterinary visit for test, treatment or examination, the cat was scanned and the microchip number was correctly recorded on all documentation.

  6. Declaration

    6.1. The exporter has signed a declaration:

    6.1.1. identifying the cat by breed, sex and age.

    6.1.2. verifying that, since birth, direct import from Australia or for 90 days immediately preceding export to Australia, the cat was continually resident in New Zealand.

    6.1.3. declaring that the cat is not derived from a cross with a non-domestic species, or in the case of a Bengal cat, the cat does not have any Asian Leopard cat ancestor less than 5 generations away.

  7. Report endorsement and attachment

    7.1. All treatments, collection of specimens and examinations were conducted in an approved country by an official government veterinarian or a government approved veterinarian.

    7.2. A valid export certificate accompanied the cat on arrival in Australia and bore the original signature of an approved representative of the Competent Authority on each page (documents may only be endorsed following all treatments, tests and examinations).

  8. Travel to Australia

    8.1. The cat was transported to Australia as manifested air cargo.

    8.2. The cat was consigned directly from New Zealand to Australia in a container that meets the standard required in the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Live Animals Regulation Container Requirement 1.
