Risk Background

Risk background: Risks associated with stock feed of animal, fish or microbiological origin

Effective 1 October 2020 to 29 April 2021

These products are often combinations of ingredients of animal, fish and/or microbiological origin that cannot be easily elucidated when the products are examined at entry. These ingredients and products include meat meals, fish meals, milk products, blood and blood components and fermentation products. Such material can be contaminated with or contain a variety of exotic and endemic pathogens and must undergo individual assessments. As these products will be exposed directly to animals they pose a significant biosecurity risk. Even low levels of contamination with exotic disease agents are significant given the potential high level of exposure.
