General Rationale

Detection / monitoring surveys for brown rot must be conducted each season by the National Plant Protection Organisation (NPPO) in export orchards. The NPPO must submit the results to the department prior to exports commencing.

The NPPO must inspect all export orchards and a sample of non-export orchards, both inside and outside the designated export area during orchard inspection, and must monitor the levels of pests of concern. If brown rot is detected in any designated export area, fruit from that export area will not be permitted entry into Australian territory.

Field sanitation measures must be carried out in export orchards to reduce the incidence of brown rot.

Export fruit must be free from disease symptoms during pre-export inspection by NPPO and on-arrival inspection by the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment.

NPPO must notify the department if disease status changes or unusual weather conditions that give rise to conditions for disease development to occur.
