Certificate: New Zealand government approved semen collection centre veterinary certification

Effective 4 December 2019 to 22 June 2021

The New Zealand government approved semen collection centre veterinarian must certify to the following clauses:

2. The centre veterinarian who supervised the collection and processing of this semen is approved by the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries.

3. The approved centre veterinarian:

  • ensured the isolation of the donors from all other ruminants not of equivalent health status prior to semen collection

  • supervised the isolation period

  • supervised the blood sampling of donors and ensured that the donors are tested in accordance with these requirements

  • recorded the required details for each donor on the table attached to this veterinary certificate

  • verified the permanent identification of the semen straws with the identification details of the donor and the date of collection or a code from which this information could be determined.

4. Each donor showed no clinical signs of Johne’s disease (paratuberculosis) during the collection period.

5. The semen in this consignment was collected in New Zealand at a semen centre, where diagnostic testing and surveillance of the resident cattle has shown them to be free from Campylobacter fetus venerealis, EBL, and Trichomonas foetus for at least 6 months prior to collection for this consignment.

6. Before pre-collection isolation the donor bull(s) was part of a herd that was officially free from bovine tuberculosis, and gave a negative result to an intradermal tuberculin test during the 60 days prior to entry to the semen centre.

7. The semen centre was officially free from bovine tuberculosis, with resident animals tested annually using an intradermal tuberculin test.

8. Sex sorted semen is NOT included in this shipment.

9. The semen was identified in a legible and non-erasable manner, and sealed and code marked in accordance with the OIE code, in line with the international standards of the International Committee for Animal Recording (ICAR).

10. The semen has been stored, using fresh liquid nitrogen, since the end of the collection period until export, under the supervision of the official veterinarian in a container(s) in which no biological material other than semen, embryos or ova of equivalent health status was held.

11. Reproductive material in this consignment was NOT removed from containers for further processing or aggregation with other reproductive material.

12. Prior to loading, the shipping container was emptied and inspected and any loose straws removed. The shipping container, including all surfaces in contact with the straws, ampoules or vials was then disinfected with one of the following disinfectants: 2% available chlorine (e.g. chlorine bleach), 2% Virkon or irradiated at 50 kGy.

13. Only reproductive material that met Australian import conditions was added to the shipping container.

14. Prior to export to Canada, the approved veterinarian checked the identity of the reproductive material for this consignment, and that the containers (e.g.straws, ampoules, or vials) of the reproductive material were sealed.

15. Prior to shipment to Canada, the semen transportation container was sealed by an official veterinarian with an official seal.
