Requirement: Export of fresh ginger from Fiji to Australia

Effective 3 August 2019 to 13 October 2021

Consignments of ginger being imported from Fiji into Australia must be grown and packed in Fiji in accordance with the conditions governing entry of fresh ginger to Australia:

  1. All fresh ginger for export to Australian territory must be sourced from commercial export farms registered with the Fijian NPPO.

  2. All ginger for export to Australian territory must be processed and packed in packinghouses registered with the Fijian NPPO.

  3. Pre-shipment fumigation can only be undertaken in facilities that have been registered by the Fijian NPPO.

  4. All fresh ginger for export to Australian territory must be fully cleaned and air dried.

  5. Ginger rhizomes must be free from shoots, roots, soil and other contaminants.

  6. Individual cartons of produce must have the following information printed on each box:
    6.1. Product name

6.2. Date of packing

6.3. Name or registration reference for the fumigator/facility (for pre-shipment fumigated consignments)

6.4. Date of fumigation (for pre-shipment fumigated consignments)

6.5. Packhouse registration number, packing facility name or the Fijian NPPO reference code

6.6. Name of the exporting company.
