Risk Background

Biosecurity risks associated with animal transport equipment

Effective 14 July 2015 to 30 April 2016

Animal transport equipment previously used with animals poses a high quarantine risk through cross contamination with material carrying animal diseases. The transport equipment can carry animal matter, insects, soil and other debris and it may be stored in packaging that also poses high biosecurity risk.

Many viruses and bacteria are able to survive for long periods in soil, blood and mucus.
