Risk Background
Bonsai trees
Effective 14 July 2015 to 12 January 2017Nursery stock policy requires plants to be bare rooted prior to fumigation, followed by a period of growth in post entry quarantine (i.e. at least three months active growth). Plant growth during this period of quarantine may pose difficulties for importers seeking to introduce bonsai trees, given their unique maintenance requirements.
Importers are advised that special attention will not be given to the plants to maintain the bonsai characteristics (training, pruning, etc.) during post entry quarantine.
