Permit requirement included for unassessed species of dried or processed mushrooms
Effective from 25 February 2025The department has included an apply now button to the Dried or processed mushrooms - Other than restricted medicinal species listed - Non-permitted species import conditions within the Mushrooms for human consumption, BICON case.
This change has been put in place to assist facilitate imports of dried or processed mushroom species that are yet to be assessed by the department.
Importers however should be aware that mushrooms may be regulated by other government agencies at all levels. It is the importers responsibility to check with these agencies for regulations.
Potential importers should consider contacting the department prior to applying for a permit of a species that is unassessed as the assessment process may take up to 2 years to complete. It is advised you contact Plant Import Operations prior to applying.
