Addition of species to the ‘Plant species requiring further assessment’ BICON case

Effective from 11 September 2024

Species added to this case
The department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has completed a Weed Risk Assessment (WRA) for several species, included in the table below.

The assessment has determined that there is insufficient information to complete the WRA assessment for these species and make a determination regarding the species weed potential.

Acanthosicyos horridus

Adenostoma sparsifolium

Bambusa lapidea

Commiphora glandulosa

Commiphora mollis

Dalbergia lanceolaria

Drimia uniflora

Eutrema parvulum

Eutrema salsugineum

Oxalis teneriensis

Pterocarya stenoptera

Trientalis borealis

Triodanis leptocarpa

Trollius farreri

The following species have been added to the ‘Plant species requiring further assessment’ case and are therefore not permitted for import until additional information is made available to support a re-assessment.

Background
The Weed Risk Assessment system is a science-based quarantine risk analysis tool for determining the weed potential of a plant. All plants proposed for importation into Australia and not currently permitted on BICON are assessed for their potential to become weeds in Australia. Further information on the Weed Risk Assessment system is available on the department’s webpage for Weed assessment of new plant imports.

Who does this notice affect?
Importers of seed and nursery stock, customs brokers and departmental staff.
