Documentation requirements for ‘Human fluids and tissues not known to be infected' standard permit

Effective from 21 August 2024

The department has reviewed the import conditions for human fluids and tissues and has updated the import conditions for this commodity.

Effective immediately, the standard permit case for ‘Human fluids and tissues that are not known to be infected’ will require a manufacturer’s declaration or supplier’s declaration to demonstrate compliance with biosecurity requirements. These changes will provide the department with assurance that consignments of these goods meet the conditions of the import permit.

In addition, the case has been updated to clarify that any goods imported using the permit case are required to not be infected with disease causing prion proteins. This additional requirement will mitigate the risks associated with prion proteins.

There will be no impacts to current permit holders. These changes will be applied to new import permit applications for these goods.
