New standard permit for laboratory materials for ionising radiation at 50 kGy

Effective from 1 February 2024

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has created a new standard permit for the import of animal fluids and tissues and laboratory materials that will be treated onshore with ionising radiation to a level that achieves a minimum absorbed dose of 50 kGy, excluding:

  1. Fluids and tissues sourced from bovines, ovines, caprines, cervines, camelids and/or mink or their derivatives.
  2. Goods containing fluids and tissues sourced from bovines, ovines, caprines, cervines, camelids and/or mink or their derivatives.
  3. Goods known (or suspected) to be infected with disease causing prion proteins (whether protease resistant or not).

Importers are encouraged to review the import conditions and apply for a standard permit if conditions can be met. If your goods do not meet all of the permit conditions, please submit an application for a non-standard permit.
