Update to Phytosanitary Certificate Requirements for Unprocessed Garlic Bulbs

Effective from 9 February 2024

The department has removed the requirement for a phytosanitary certificate to present information on distinguishing marks for unprocessed garlic bulbs. This change will cover import conditions for both garlic bulbs treated on arrival and garlic bulbs treated offshore. The department will update the import conditions in BICON and will vary import permits to reflect this change. This notice affects importers of unprocessed garlic bulbs treated on arrival and treated offshore.

Further information:
Prior to the importation of goods into Australia, a valid import permit issued by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is required.
An import permit may be obtained by submitting an import permit application to the department (if viewed online, use the 'Apply Now' button at the bottom of the BICON case).
