New commodity cases for fresh produce and fresh cut flowers and foliage

Effective from 22 March 2024

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (the department) has developed specific conditions for the following goods into the External Territories of Norfolk Island, Cocos (Keeling) Islands and Christmas Island :

  1. Fresh produce for human consumption imported into Australian external territories
  2. Fresh cut flowers and foliage for import into Australian external territories

Importers wishing to import the above commodities into any of the Australian external territories will now need to navigate the specific conditions outlined in the above cases.

Import permits:
New import permits have been issued, to reflect the restructured import conditions. New permits only apply to current active permit holders for the goods listed above.

Who does this notice affect:

Importers of goods into Australian external territories, Biosecurity Imports Support Team (BIST) and Pathway Operations Cargo - Assessment and Inspections.
