Enhancing the enforceability of import permit conditions for farmed finfish for human consumption

Effective from 29 March 2024

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is enhancing the enforceability of standard import permit conditions for farmed finfish from Taiwan and the Philippines for human consumption.

The current biosecurity measures for farmed finfish from Taiwan and the Philippines for human consumption include that:

  • The fish must be derived from and processed in, facilities approved by and under the control of the Taiwan or Philippines authority included in the Competent Authority list for finfish and seafood.
  • The fish must not be derived from a population slaughtered as an official disease control measure.
  • The product must be free from visible lesions associated with infectious disease and fit for human consumption.

The standard import permit conditions for farmed finfish from Taiwan and the Philippines, have been updated to enhance the enforceability of these measures in the event of a non-compliance.

No changes have been made to the documentation (Official government certificate) requirements and standard import permit holders will not need to make any changes to their current importation procedures.

Who does this notice affect:
