Changes

The department has added another starter culture to the standard permit for starter cultures not on the department approved list.

• Micrococcus luteus has been added to the list of permitted starter cultures in the permit appendix.

This change only applies to permits issued after 20 February 2024.

There have not been any other changes to the import conditions for starter cultures.

Note: the standard permit also allows for the import of starter cultures that are listed on the department's list of approved starter cultures to facilitate import of goods that contain a mixture of starter cultures.

Who does this notice affect:
Importers of starter cultures (and derivatives), Biosecurity Import Support Team, Pathway Operations Cargo - Assessment and Inspections.
