Update to approved ingredients for standard permits for non-composite bovine dairy products

Effective from 28 September 2023

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (department) has changed the list of approved ingredients in the standard bovine dairy permits.

The standard permit conditions for dairy do not allow for the importation of composite goods, other than those containing bovine dairy and approved ingredients as specified below. Synthetic material has now been added to the list:

  1. Approved starter cultures
  2. Highly refined organic chemicals and substances
  3. Fish oil (or its derivatives) in a quantity of not more than 25 kilograms, or 25 litres, for each individually packaged unit
  4. Minerals (including salt)
  5. Water
  6. Synthetic material i.e. ingredients not derived from any biological origin

Who does this notice affect:
Importers of dairy and dairy products, Pathway Operations Cargo – Assessment and Inspection, Biosecurity Imports Support Team (BIST).
