Enhancing the enforceability of import permit conditions for prawn and prawn products

Effective from 6 September 2023

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (department) is enhancing the enforceability of import permit conditions for cooked and uncooked prawns and prawn products (excluding dried prawns and shelf stable prawns).

The enhanced conditions will not change current government certification or inspection, sampling, or disease testing conditions, but will more clearly outline the import requirements that apply. Import permit holders will not need to make any changes to their current importation procedures, aside from no longer needing to provide a manufacturer’s declaration for prawns, for each imported consignment.

Note: These changes are separate to the changes being implemented as part of the prawn review.

Who does this notice affect:
Importers of prawn and prawn products, Pathway Operations Cargo - Assessment and Inspection, BIST.
