Review of conditions for Carissa spp. imported as nursery stock
Effective from 26 January 2024The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (the department) has completed a review of BICON conditions for Carissa spp. imported as nursery stock.
A number of species within the genus Carissa have been permitted under both the ‘Xylella fastidiosa hosts for use as nursery stock’ and the ‘Tropical and temperate species that are hosts of Xylella fastidiosa for use as nursery stock’ BICON cases.
Following the department’s review, it was determined that the import conditions outlined under the ‘Xylella fastidiosa hosts for use as nursery stock’ BICON case are sufficient for managing the biosecurity risks associated with importing Carissa spp. The department’s review also identified two additional species within Carissa spp. to be added to the ‘Xylella fastidiosa hosts for use as nursery stock’ BICON case, based on information supporting synonymy with approved species.
The following species have been removed from the ‘Tropical and temperate species that are hosts of Xylella fastidiosa for use as nursery stock’ BICON case:
Carissa acuminata |
Carissa arduina |
Carissa bispinosa |
Carissa carandas |
Carissa congesta |
Carissa edulis |

The following species have been added to the ‘Xylella fastidiosa hosts for use as nursery stock’ BICON case:
