Updates to species listings in the ‘Xylella fastidiosa hosts for use as nursery stock’ case

Effective from 30 October 2023

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (the department) has completed a Weed Risk Assessment (WRA) for several species.

The following scientific names have been added to the ‘Xylella fastidiosa hosts for use as nursery stock’ BICON case, as the department has assessed that these species pose a low weed risk or are already present in Australia and not under official control.

As a result, these species may be permitted entry into Australian territory subject to the import conditions under the ‘Xylella fastidiosa hosts for use as nursery stock’ BICON case.

Allaeanthus luzonicus

Broussonetia luzonica

Dahlia x hybrida

Eupatorium riparium

Pilocarpus microphyllus

Zinnia marylandica

No other changes have been made to import conditions for Xylella fastidiosa hosts for use as nursery stock.

Background:
The Weed Risk Assessment system is a science-based quarantine risk analysis tool for determining the weed potential of a plant. All plants proposed for importation into Australia and not currently permitted on BICON are assessed for their potential to become weeds in Australia. Import permits:
Current import permits will not be updated to reflect this change, any permit holders intending to import these species will have to apply for a variation to include any additional species.

Importers of nursery stock, customs brokers and departmental staff.
