Changes to Fish including fish caviar, fish roe, fish viscera and fish maw (excluding salmonid fish)

Effective from 8 December 2023

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (department) has made changes to the BICON commodity case Fish including fish caviar, fish roe, fish viscera and fish maw (excluding salmonid fish).

What’s changed:

  • Clarifying import conditions for fish
  • Streamlining the BICON pathways (adding glossary items, removing appendixes, and inserting standardised lists for fish species and overseas authorities).
  • Whole fish, and head off, de-gilled, and eviscerated fish have an increased risk of insect infestation when not imported frozen. Inspection requirements have been clarified for fish that either must be imported frozen or inspected to ensure they are free from biosecurity risk material.

Documentation conditions have not changed.
