Enhancing the enforceability of import permit conditions for retorted goods

Effective from 4 November 2023

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is enhancing the enforceability of import permit conditions for retorted goods.

The current biosecurity measures for retorted goods which require an import permit include that the hermetically sealed container in which the product was retorted, has a permanent mark with the identification number of the manufacturing establishment and the batch code. The import permit conditions for retorted goods have been updated to enhance the enforceability of this measure in the event of a non-compliance.

No changes have been made to the documentation (Health certificate) requirements and import permit holders will not need to make any changes to their current importation procedures.

Who does this notice affect:
Importers of Retorted goods and biosecurity officers.
