Additional on-arrival treatment options

Effective from 17 October 2023

The department has reviewed mandatory onshore treatment options for permitted Lavandula spp. and Saintpaulia spp. when imported in a form other than tissue cultures. Importers of permitted species as other than tissue cultures (excluding those from high-risk Xylella fastidiosa countries) can now elect for either mandatory on-arrival treatments:

  • Insecticidal dipping consisting of Imidacloprid 100ppm (0.1g/mL or 100mg/L) for 30 seconds, under the supervision of a biosecurity officer

    OR

  • Methyl bromide fumigation at an approved arrangement site operating under a class 4.6 at an appropriate rate.

Who does this notice affect:
Imports of Lavandula spp. and Saintpaulia spp. as other than tissue cultures (and their customs brokers) and departmental staff.

Permit holders:
Importers who hold permits for Lavandula spp. and Saintpaulia spp. as other than tissue cultures that wish to direct imports for methyl bromide fumigation should contact Plant Import Operations to discuss varying permits to include the revised conditions.
