Updated import conditions for fresh citrus from Egypt

Effective from 28 July 2023

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (the department) has removed the following additional phytosanitary declaration from fresh citrus from Egypt.

"The citrus fruit in this consignment were produced in orchards that are free from citrus canker”.

No other changes to import conditions have occurred and importers are still required to apply for an import permit.

Who does this notice affect:
This notice affects importers of fresh citrus fruit for human consumption from Egypt, brokers and Pathway Operations Cargo – Assessment and Inspections.

Background:
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry regularly reviews pest risks on imported goods and has recently completed a review of pest risks on imported citrus from Egypt.

The review examined whether the citrus pathogens Xanthomonas citri ssp citri (Citrus canker) and Phoma tracheiphila (pathogen of Mal Secco disease) were present in Egypt. The review concluded that these pathogens were not present in Egypt.
