Calrification of import conditons for counsumer ready fish
Effective from 20 October 2023The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (department) has made changes to the BICON case 'Fish including fish caviar, fish roe, fish viscera and fish maw (excluding salmonid fish)' to clarify the import conditions for consumer ready fish:
Freezing declaration
Only eviscerated, headless ‘pan-size’ fish, each weighing no more than 450 grams, or fish that is headless and eviscerated which has been salted, dried or smoked require a freezing declaration.
If a freezing declaration is not presented or is not adequate, then the goods will be subject to inspection on arrival.
Other consumer ready fish do not require a freezing declaration and an inspection is not required.
The department may conduct random inspections on any goods being imported.

Importers of consumer ready fish and fish products, Pathway Operations Cargo – Assessment and Inspections, Biosecurity Import Support Team (BIST).
