Changes to the import conditons for Starter cultures (and derivatives)

Effective from 19 August 2023

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has made a minor change to the import conditions for department approved starter cultures (and derivatives).

  • The requirement to provide an importer declaration attesting to end use has been removed.
  • The cosmetic end use has been clarified as human cosmetic use.

This change will reduce red tape and help streamline the import process.

The imported goods must meet the following end uses listed in the import conditions:

  • human consumption,
  • human therapeutics, and
  • human cosmetics.

Who does this notice affect:
Importers of approved starter cultures (and derivatives), Biosecurity Imports Support Team, Pathway Operations Cargo - Assessments and Inspections and pig meat team.
