Standard permits for non-composite bovine dairy products with approved ingredients
Effective from 21 September 2023The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (department) has released a standard permit for non-composite bovine dairy products and bovine dairy products that contain only approved ingredients. The bovine dairy must be sourced from, manufactured in, and exported from countries approved by the Director of Biosecurity as being free from Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD).
The standard permit conditions for dairy do not allow for the importation of composite goods, other than those containing bovine dairy and approved ingredients as specified below:
- Approved starter cultures
- Highly refined organic chemicals and substances
- Fish oil (or its derivatives) in a quantity of not more than 25 kilograms, or 25 litres, for each individually packaged unit
- Minerals (including salt)
- Water
A standard permit contains a specific set of conditions that have been assessed by the department as being appropriate to manage biosecurity risks for a certain commodity type. These permits do not list product names and any good that meets the permit conditions can be imported using the permit. More information on standard permits can be found on the department's website: Standard permits for biological products.
If the goods cannot meet the standard conditions, the importer must apply for a non-standard permit and the goods will be individually assessed and product names listed on the permit.
NOTE: If importers want to have product names on a permit they can apply for a non-standard permit, even if the goods could meet the standard permit conditions.
Who does this notice affect:
Importers of dairy and dairy products, Pathway Operations Cargo – Assessment and Inspection, Biosecurity Imports Support Team (BIST).
