Changes to import scenarios/pathways for crustaceans

Effective from 3 August 2023

The department has made changes to the import scenarios/pathways for crustaceans (excluding prawns) within the 'Seafood (excluding finfish) for human consumption' BICON commodity case.

The various pathways for crustaceans (excluding prawns) have been refined to the following:

  • Freshwater crayfish
  • Crustaceans other than freshwater crayfish and prawns
  • Other

The changes ensure BICON aligns with the department’s import legislation, the Biosecurity (Conditionally Non-prohibited Goods) Determination 2021 and aim to help importers better understand the import conditions for crustacean products entering Australian territory.

Who does this notice affect:
Importers of crustaceans (excluding prawns) for all end uses other than animal consumption, bioremediation agent or fertilisers, growing purposes, or veterinary therapeutic use; and biosecurity officers.
