New import pathways for Caenorhabditis elegans for laboratory use

Effective from 4 April 2023

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has developed two new import pathways for Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) for laboratory use:

  • Wild type (non-genetically modified) Caenorhabditis elegans
  • Genetically modified Caenorhabditis elegans

These new import pathways and the subsequent C. elegans standard permit application form can be found within the BICON case Laboratory material.

Importers are encouraged to review the import conditions for these two pathways and apply for a standard permit if conditions can be met.
