Changes to import conditions for Gum products

Effective from 22 August 2023

From the 14th of August 2023, the pathway for gum products imported for all other end uses aside from stockfeed, fertiliser, growing purposes will be redirected to the Highly refined organic chemicals and substances BICON case.

Who does this change affect:
Importers, brokers, and biosecurity officers that deal with gum products.

Background:
Following the completion of the departmental review of risks assessment for gum products, it was found that gum products for end uses other than stockfeed, fertiliser and growing purposes could be imported via both the Gum products BICON case as well as the Highly refined organic chemicals and substances BICON case due to gum products being listed within Section 36 of Biosecurity (Conditionally Non-prohibited Goods) Determination 2021. However, import conditions varied slightly between cases. To avoid inconsistencies and uncertainty in import conditions, all imports of gum products for end uses other than stockfeed, fertiliser and growing purposes will now be redirected to the Highly refined organic chemicals and substances case.
