Changes to Inspection onshore outcomes

Effective from 20 June 2023

The department has updated onshore outcomes in the Cucurbit seed for human consumption BICON case, for multiple pathways whereby all requirements have been met.

This change is to allow general cargo inspection officers to conduct inspections on pumpkin and watermelon seeds (and seeds greater than 8mm) without a seeds-qualified biosecurity officer, unless contaminant seeds or other plant material are found.

Additionally, for other permitted Cucurbit seed (and seeds less than 8mm), all onshore outcomes have been changed to ensure a seeds-qualified biosecurity officer conducts the inspection.

No other changes have been made to the import conditions for Cucurbit seed for human consumption.

Who does this notice affect:
Importers of cucurbit seed for human consumption from all countries and their brokers, Pathway Operations Cargo – Assessment and/or Inspections and departmental staff.
