Changes to the import of collagen and casings for human consumption
Effective from 11 July 2023The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (department) has made changes to the import conditions and import pathways for collagen and casings for human consumption.
- Restructure of the casings import pathway.
- Addition of a link to the department’s list of countries for natural casings derived from animals.
- Addition of answer help to provide more detail on what import pathways cover.
- Addition of redirects for collagen and casings from New Zealand to the Unretorted meat BICON case.
- Addition of redirects for collagen for personal use to the Protein powders and supplements for human consumption BICON case.
These changes have been implemented to help importers better understand the import conditions for collagen and casings for human consumption entering Australian territory. The changes will also assist importers in choosing the most applicable commodity case and import pathway for their goods.

Importers of collagen and casings for human consumption, BIST, brokers, biosecurity staff and Pathway Operations Cargo - Assessment and Inspection.
