Minor changes for Returning Australian animal and microbial products

Effective from 12 April 2023

The department has made minor changes in the pathways for returning Australian animal and microbial products.

The changes include the following:

  • Addition of information notices to each pathway that provide further advice to importers on for returning Australian goods.
  • Renaming of the seals intact pathway to "Goods for non-personal use with original Australian government issued container seals intact" to align with the Biosecurity (Conditionally Non-prohibited Goods) Determination 2021.
  • Addition of redirects to BICON cases for meat and dairy goods returning from New Zealand.

Additional information for returning Australian meat consignments can now be found on the department’s website. In November 2022 the Meat Exports Branch published an operational guideline for returned meat and meat products that are intended for re-export.

Who does this notice affect:
Biosecurity Import Support Team (BIST), Assessment Services Group (ASG) and importers of returning Australian animal and microbial products.
