Changes to the Semi-synthetic, Fermentation-derived Active Ingredients List for Therapeutics

Effective from 14 January 2023

The department has updated the Semi-synthetic, Fermentation-derived Active Ingredients List (see here) to add diethylaminoethyl (DEAE)-dextran. DEAE-dextran is a derivative of a biological precursor and is subject to import conditions as published in the BICON case ‘Veterinary therapeutics and veterinary therapeutic ingredients’.

Background:
Additions to the Semi-synthetic, Fermentation-derived Active Ingredients List facilitate imports of goods that present a very low level of biosecurity risk for veterinary and human therapeutic end uses.

Who does this notice affect:
Departmental staff and importers of goods that will be used for human and veterinary therapeutic purposes.
