Changes to import conditions for Foie Gras from France for Newcastle disease

Effective from 21 January 2023

The department has amended the import conditions relating to Newcastle Disease for Foie Gras from France.

The updated condition specifies that:

During the 12-21 day stuffing periods prior to slaughter, there has been no outbreak of Newcastle disease on the properties of origin of the ducks and/or geese from which the livers were derived.

This replaces the previous condition that required France to have had no reported cases of Newcastle disease during the 3 months prior to the date of slaughter of the birds from which the livers used to manufacture the foie gras were delivered and was, in accordance with the OIE Animal Health Code, officially free of Newcastle disease.

Who does this notice affect:
Importers of unretorted Foie Gras from France, biosecurity staff and Pathway Operations Cargo - Assessment and Inspections.
