Import conditions for hosts of fireblight, SOD and Xylella fastidiosa for nursery stock

Effective from 29 July 2022

The department has re-established import conditions for plant hosts of fireblight, sudden oak death (SOD) and Xylella fastidiosa, imported for an end use of nursery stock.

Imported hosts of fireblight, sudden oak death and Xylella fastidiosa as nursery stock must be accompanied with an import permit issued by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. Import permits must be obtained prior to importation.

Consignments must undergo growth and disease screening at the Commonwealth post-entry quarantine facility in Mickleham, Victoria, which includes active testing to ensure freedom from pests of biosecurity concern. The minimum quarantine period ranges from 12 – 15 months, dependent on the form of material imported.

Who does this notice affect:
Importers of plant hosts of fireblight, sudden oak death and Xylella fastidiosa as nursery stock, brokers and departmental staff.
