Changes to conditions for bulgur wheat and freekeh for human consumption

Effective from 24 June 2022

Import conditions have been amended to remove the requirement for a phytosanitary certificate for commercially prepared and packaged bulgur wheat and freekeh arriving in full container load consignments from khapra beetle countries.

Who does this notice affect:

Importers of bulgur wheat and freekeh, brokers and biosecurity officers.

Background:
The department recently implemented new import conditions to reduce the risk of khapra beetle and other Trogoderma species of biosecurity concern entering Australia. The new import conditions do not apply to commercially prepared and packaged goods that have been thermally processed such as roasted or parboiled seeds and grains.
