Revised case structure for Cosmetics and soaps

Effective from 26 April 2022

As a result of amendments to the Biosecurity (Conditionally Non prohibited Goods) Determination 2021 import conditions in the BICON commodity case Cosmetics and soaps have been changed.

Human cosmetic use has been added to the alternative conditions for gelatine. An import permit will no longer be required for gelatine, that is commercially prepared, for use in cosmetics for humans. Gelatine will not count towards the 20% animal derived material in fully finished retail packaged human cosmetics.

There has been an minor amendment to the list of ingredients that do not count to the 20% animal derived ingredients of retail goods: The entry “fish oil (other than salmon oil)” has been amended to “fish oil (other than fish oil derived from members of the family Salmonidae or the genus Plecoglossus”.

Who does this notice affect:
Importers of gelatine for use in human cosmetics, Pathway Operations Cargo - Assessment, Client Contact Group.
