Revised import conditions for goat semen

Effective from 22 June 2021

The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment has revised the import conditions for goat semen.

  1. The import conditions for goat semen from permitted countries have changed.
  2. The department has approved the addition of 2.4% Prevail as an option for disinfection of shipping container/tanks used to import ruminant reproductive material.

Who does this notice affect:

Importers of goat semen, Veterinary and Export Meat Group.

Background:

The department has determined that the disinfectant ‘Prevail’ (accelerated hydrogen peroxide at dilution ratio 1:40 or 2.4%) for shipping container/tank disinfection is an acceptable alternative to the current approved options of 2% available chlorine (e.g. chlorine bleach), 2% Virkon or irradiation at 50 kGy.
